Carla Piteira is a dentist, CEO, and clinical director of SmileLx Dental Clinic. With a career spanning over 20 years, she has dedicated herself exclusively to orthodontics, developing her training primarily outside of Portugal.

What inspired you to become a dentist, and what led you to create SmileLx?

Caring for others has always inspired me, so when I chose to pursue a career in healthcare, the decision was clear. I have always been fascinated by the transformation that a change in someone’s smile can bring and the impact it has on many levels. The integration of oral health as part of overall well-being—and its connection to mental health and various systemic diseases—is undeniable.

I decided to create SmileLx with a concept centered on closeness and direct contact with patients, something that is increasingly rare in healthcare. I wanted a clinic focused on the humanisation of dentistry and the personalisation of treatment plans, with dedicated professionals and, above all, time to listen to and truly get to know each patient.

What do you think differentiates SmileLx from other clinics?

SmileLx is a small, family-oriented clinic where patients are treated with warmth and proximity. We have a team of highly specialised professionals across different areas of dentistry, constantly evolving and working with cutting-edge technology.

Our treatment plans are designed ethically, transparently, and are fully personalised, with the primary goal of promoting health first and then enhancing aesthetics. We aim to reveal the best version of each person’s smile.

What were the decisive moments in your career?

My first postgraduate degree in Orthodontics in New York was undoubtedly a turning point in my mindset. I realised there was room in Lisbon to create a boutique-style clinic where I could apply my knowledge and build a team capable of providing patients with a truly memorable experience.

Today, we have patients from various countries choosing Lisbon as their place to live, and we are very proud to meet the highest expectations of those who place their trust in us.

What is your life motto?

Never forget where we come from, but above all, never lose sight of where we want to go.
