Eating out in Lisbon

BEST FOR… ITALIAN

Taryn King checks out Lisbon’s finest Italian eateries.

1. DAVVERO LISBOA

Davvero is an elegant, beautiful space in the heart of Lisbon with a strong focus on high quality, handpicked artisanal ingredients which are displayed in its modern Italian dishes. Chef Isaac Kumi brings an authentic and sophisticated experience with a profound understanding of the right combinations and the sequences of flavours. I tried the truffle taglioni, which was silky and aromatic in its simplicity, followed by a delicate sea bass with lemon butter. No Italian meal is complete without an espresso and a dessert, and the tiramisu was surprising in its beautiful presentation and delightful in taste. @davverolisboa

2. COPPOLA

In the charming Praça das Flores, Coppola is that place that you keep hearing about but have to try for yourself. The space is small, but lively, spilling out onto the busy street, the vibes are relaxed and fun, the décor is vintage cool and the staff are friendly. The menu is all about pizza, with proper Italian thin crust and authentic ingredients. I tried the signature pizza topped with pancetta, potato cream and sweet provolone which did not disappoint. The pizza toppings on the menu feature other interesting ingredients like creamy gorgonzola with pear, anchovies and ricotta cream and pomodoro San Marzano sauce with nduja. They also have gluten free and vegan options available. @coppola_lisboa

3. FIAMMETTA

Tucked away in the charming neighbourhood of Campo de Ourique, Fiammetta delivers a classic Italian experience. From the moment I arrived it felt like I had been welcomed into a warm trattoria in Rome, with some added refined details.
The menu leans into time honoured recipes featuring genuine ingredients as a nod to their heritage. I began with a platter of mixed cured meats and cheeses from their artisanal deli corner, which is perfect as an aperitivo with a pre dinner drink. The mezze-maniche carbonara, pasta with guanciale and pecorino, featured rich sauce clinging to ridged tubes in a way that only an Italian chef can get so perfectly right. Another standout on the menu is their tagliatelle with pork-cheek ragù - slow-cooked to lend a hearty flavour to a fresh pasta. The wine list featured some fine Italian bottles to complement a deliciously authentic Italian meal. @fiammetta.lx
